Description
xNamed after its harvest place, 'Yiwu,' this tea comes from the southernmost part of Xishuangbanna in Yunnan Province, China. Gua Feng Zhai is located in the eastern Yiwu mountain range. Situated in a tropical rainforest zone at elevations of 1,200–1,400 meters, the area experiences a warm, humid climate year-round, with abundant rainfall, making it an ideal environment for tea tree growth. The significant temperature difference between day and night further enhances the buildup of nutrients in the leaves.
Our 2009 raw Pu'er tea cake is sourced from this renowned tea-growing region. The tea leaves are plump and full, with many tender buds. The tea cake has a smooth, oily surface and is pressed to a consistent density. Each cake weighs approximately 357 grams, adhering to the traditional standard for Pu'er tea cakes.
This weight specification originates from historical practices designed to facilitate trade and transport, becoming one of the hallmarks of authentic Pu'er tea. Typically, seven cakes (known as 'Qizi Bing' or 'Seven Sons Cake') are bundled together, totaling approximately 2.5 kilograms. This standardization not only simplifies measurement and storage but also embodies the profound cultural heritage of Pu'er tea.
After 16 years of aging, this tea boasts a delicate and long-lasting flavor. The tea broth carries the unique, primal forest aroma characteristic of the Yiwu region—bold and expansive. Within its smooth and refined texture lies a potent tea energy (cha qi).
If you're new to tea cakes or don't have the right tools for opening compressed tea, you may need a tea needle (also known as a tea knife). It's an essential and enjoyable part of the traditional Chinese tea ceremony.

You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).
You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).
